The Original Concept

The original idea was to create a simple studio performance using a projector.

We planned to use videos Agnese had recorded during her trip to Thailand. These videos would play behind her while she performed the song in front of the camera.

We also wanted to experiment with projecting the lyrics onto her or onto the darker side of her face. This would have created a more intimate visual connection between the artist, the lyrics and her personal travel footage.

The concept was simple, but it would still give the video a personal and visually interesting atmosphere.

Adapting the Concept

Unfortunately, we experienced technical difficulties with the projectors during the shoot.

The projected images were not working the way we had planned, which meant that we had to change the concept while already inside the studio.

Rather than stopping the production or trying to force an idea that was not working, we used the studio and the equipment available to create a new visual direction.

The focus shifted towards simple but appealing performance setups, using lighting, composition and camera movement to create variety between the scenes.

Even though the final result was different from the original plan, we were still able to create a complete visual style for the song.

Production Process

The project was handled through every stage of production, including pre-production, production, and post-production.

The music video was filmed using a Sony FX30 with a Sigma 17–40mm f/1.8 lens. This setup made it possible to move quickly between wider compositions and closer performance shots without slowing down the production.

The lighting and camera work became the main tools for separating each setup. Some scenes were kept simple and controlled, while others used more movement to match the rhythm and energy of the song.

Behind-the-scenes footage was recorded using a DJI Osmo Pocket 3, allowing the process to be documented without interrupting the main production.

During post-production, some of the projector material was still usable and was included in the final video. This helped preserve part of the original concept, even though it could not be used throughout the full production.

Final Thoughts

Fascination was our first music-video project together and a good example of how important flexibility can be during production.

The original concept did not work because of technical difficulties, but instead of cancelling the shoot, we adjusted the direction and created something different using the studio, lighting, and equipment available to us.

Not every production goes exactly according to plan. Sometimes the ability to react quickly and find a new direction becomes one of the most important parts of the creative process.

This project allowed Agnese and me to begin working together, experiment with different visual ideas, and create the first step towards future collaborations.
