The goal was to create something beyond a traditional visualiser.

Instead of a simple performance-based video, we wanted to build a visualiser with depth — something that still feels minimal, but has strong visual elements. One of the key ideas was to integrate lyrics directly into the environment, meaning we had to think about compositions during the shoot that would allow space for large text around Morejid.

The concept initially came from me, and since me and Morejid have been working together for over four years, we already understand each other’s style and direction. That made the process much smoother.

The video wasn’t fully story-driven — it was more about specific planned moments tied to the music, combined with a strong visual direction and adapting to what works best in each location.

Pre-Production

We spent around two weeks planning the project.

The preparation included:

  • Developing the overall visual direction
  • Studying references from music videos and creative films
  • Planning key shots for specific parts of the track
  • Building a rough draft using reference clips to understand pacing and flow

This draft helped define what kind of B-roll and transitions we would need before even starting the shoot.

The biggest limitation was time — everything had to fit into a single day. On top of that, Latvia’s unpredictable weather became a factor, as rain forced us to cut the last location short.

Location Scouting

Location scouting played a major role in this project.

  • Around 6 locations were shortlisted
  • 4 main locations were used
  • The remaining 2 were replaced with nearby alternatives to save time

Some locations that looked great on Google Maps didn’t work in reality. One had construction, another was too busy — which shows how important it is to physically visit locations before the shoot.

We planned the shoot on a holiday, which helped reduce crowds. We also got lucky with partly cloudy weather, which gave us a variety of lighting conditions throughout the day.

Interestingly, shooting in public worked in our favor — people were supportive, some were cheering, and tourists were even recording the process.

The most important locations were the ones with large empty walls, which allowed us to place lyrics around Morejid and create a strong visual identity.

The Shoot

Everything was shot in one day, so staying efficient was critical.

Gear Setup

  • Sony FX30 + Sigma 17–50mm f/1.8 (main camera)
  • Sony A7S III for secondary angles and B-roll
  • Two old-school cameras for nostalgic footage

The combination allowed us to mix clean cinematic visuals with more raw, vintage textures.

Collaboration

This project worked well because of the team.

  • Toms Auzins helped capture strong secondary angles and behind-the-scenes content
  • The stylist and visual director, Idris, was involved from the start — planning outfits and props based on each location
  • Morejid himself was very flexible, bringing ideas while trusting the overall direction

Having a team made the process much smoother compared to working alone, where it’s easy to miss details.

On the Day

The first shot of the day was a static shot in the busiest location, scheduled early to avoid crowds. It was simple to set up and worked as a good warm-up. It also became the opening shot of the final video, where the performance starts more controlled rather than energetic.

We did fall slightly behind during the second location because we spent more time capturing strong shots. This led to some pressure at the final location, where rain eventually forced us to stop earlier than planned — but overall, it didn’t affect the final result too much.

Most of the shoot followed the plan closely, which made the day feel controlled despite the time limitations.

Post-Production

The video was edited in DaVinci Resolve Studio.

The process took around 4 days:

  1. Creating a rough cut and selecting shots
  2. Finalizing structure and pacing
  3. Color grading
  4. Adding transitions, effects, and lyrics

We stuck closely to the original plan in terms of pacing.

Visually, the direction leaned towards:

  • Punchy, deep colours
  • A slightly dreamy and old-school feel
  • VHS footage used as supporting B-roll to add texture

Color grading was straightforward since we already had a clear style in mind.

Final Thoughts

This project showed how much can be achieved with the right preparation — even within a one-day shoot.

If the concept required more complex setups or lighting, we would definitely need more time and a larger team. But for this type of production, one day was enough.

More than anything, this project reinforced how fun and creatively flexible music videos can be — and it’s something I want to explore more.
