The music video was built around a performance-driven concept, with a strong focus on lighting and atmosphere.
The overall tone combined:
- Industrial textures
- Playful but controlled lighting
- Strong color identity
We worked with a limited but effective palette:
- Red, yellow, pink
- White and light blue
- Select black-and-white moments
The goal was to create distinct scenes for each performer, while still maintaining a consistent visual identity across the entire video.
My Role
I was involved from the early stages of pre-production and throughout the shoot.
My responsibilities included:
- Assisting with lighting setup and scene building
- Contributing to creative decisions and visual direction
- Operating a secondary camera for additional angles
- Capturing behind-the-scenes content (video, photos, and interviews)
While Toms focused on main camera direction and composition, I worked closely on designing the scenes and making sure everything visually worked together — especially in terms of lighting and atmosphere.
Building the Scenes
One of the most interesting parts of this project was how each performer had a distinct visual environment.
In addition to individual setups, we created shared performance scenes where all artists appear together, helping unify the video.
Tom (The Rozz)
His scene was more intimate and controlled, built around deep red lighting.
As he moves through the space, the lighting and framing create a sense of forward motion, matching his presence in the track.
Krumins
For this setup, we used a black tarp with burned holes, placed in front of a strong backlight.
With added smoke, this created light rays passing through the material, forming a very dramatic and moody look around the performer.
This scene had a raw, almost aggressive visual energy.
Liene
Liene’s scene leaned more into the industrial environment itself.
We used:
- Chains as part of the set
- Pink tube lighting
- More dynamic camera movement
Her performance had more energy, especially during chorus sections, so the visuals needed to reflect that with variation in framing and motion.
Lighting Approach
The venue itself gave us a big advantage.
Since we were shooting in a fully equipped concert hall, we had access to:
- Built-in lighting systems
- Smoke machines
- Large-scale light setups
This allowed us to experiment freely.
We used a mix of:
- Practical lights visible in frame
- Tube lighting for structure
- Strong directional lights
- Flashing and reflective lighting effects
The main challenge wasn’t setting up lights — it was making sure each scene felt unique, while still belonging to the same visual world.
The Shoot
The production took place over two full days, which gave us time to:
- Test different lighting setups
- Experiment with ideas
- Refine scenes without rushing
The workflow was collaborative — rather than following a strict plan, we adapted to the space and built each scene based on what worked best visually.
Overall, the shoot was smooth and creative, without major technical issues.
Secondary Camera & BTS
Alongside helping with lighting and setup, I was responsible for:
- Shooting secondary angles during takes
- Capturing close-ups and details to complement the main footage
- Producing a full behind-the-scenes video
While the main camera focused more on wide and establishing shots, I worked on tighter compositions and supporting visuals.
For BTS, I captured:
- Cinematic behind-the-scenes footage
- Photos
- Interviews with the team
This was important for this project, as the goal was to create a long-form BTS piece, not just short social clips — showing the full process and collaboration behind the video.
Final Thoughts
This project reinforced how valuable it is to be involved beyond just one role.
Working on lighting, camera, and BTS at the same time gave me a broader perspective on the production process — and allowed me to contribute creatively, not just technically.
It’s also a reminder that you don’t always need a large team to create something strong — a focused group with clear ideas can achieve a lot.
